Progression Routes

Mission
By delivering creative and vocational courses, Point Blank provides educational pathways and progression routes for young people from Level 1 to Level 4. From those who are NEET to those in school and further education, we facilitate the pathways leading to employment and higher education. We're continuously developing our links with FE colleges, universities and employers to enable these progression routes for students. The ultimate aim is that young people we engage in our community projects have the opportunity to take further courses at our college, from where they will receive support to progress onto higher education if they so wish.
Higher Education Progression
Canterbury Christ Church University validates our Level 4 BTEC HNC in Music Production. Students who take this course progress onto the second year of the University's Creative Music Tech BA Hons degree course. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to study at Point Blank accessing HEFCE funding and student loans, then progressing on to university. Often, young people will view Point Blank as a more appealing first step to Higher Education rather than suddenly making the leap to university.
Employer Links
We also have excellent links with Creative and Media Industry employers through our commercial activities with Orange, First Choice, Bacardi, MTV, many Local Authorities and Universal Publishing. These links provide work tasters, company visits and work experience and career opportunities for your students. Last year First Choice Holidays employed 12 of our tutors for workshop delivery for 6 weeks in various resorts worldwide. Gymbox gyms use our DJs on a permanent basis. We aim to exploit our connections with industry employers to offer positions for course participants. Since all our tutors are industry professionals (running labels, releasing tracks, remixing other artists, engineering, producing etc), we have contacts at major companies within the industry. For example, we source Radio Production tutors from BBC, Kiss FM and Choice FM.
Point Blank Music Publishing
Point Blank has its own publishing company, Point Blank Music, which sub- publishes through Universal Music. This creates real opportunities for young people to earn royalties from the music they make. All original tracks produced on our courses are considered for Universal Music's library, with the potential to earn royalties for the young person who created them. We also provide opportunities for our students to write soundtracks for adverts, TV and film e.g. recently Point Blank student Jake Warren pitched and secured the soundtrack for the Swatch campaign on MTV.
Music & Media Scholarship
All young people can apply for our Music & Media Scholarship, a discretionary scholarship to attend more advanced and longer-term courses at our state-of-the-art music college in Hoxton or at our innovative online music college.
Work Placement Scheme
Our 3-tiered Work Placement Scheme gives committed young people the chance to join Point Blank tutors and assistants on community projects. After gaining on-the-job experience, they may progress to paid work as an assistant tutor and, in turn, as a lead tutor.
