Free website design and construction courses in Hackney

Point Blank want Hackney teens interested in media and technology to design and construction an exciting new youth website for Hackney Youth Service.

The site will offer local young people of entertainment, information and advice and let them know about local events and services. It will also be a place to meet and chat with friends online, and the remix machine will let users create their own music and mixes to share with friends.

Over the course of two years Point Blank will host weekly drop-in training sessions starting on Wednesday 11 March, 12-6pm at their music and media college in Hoxton. Tutored by a professional web designer, these training sessions will:

- Teach technical skills including how to design, edit and monitor site content.

- Allow you to take part in all aspects of website design creation from the first idea, through to design and build.

- Involve you in every stage of the project including the management, development and editorial control of the site. You’ll learn how to upload content including music, video, radio pod casts, news items and articles to make it a site that is cool, fun and informative- and used by young people in Hackney on a regular basis.

- Give participants who excel a chance to get work experience at Point Blanks busy media-style offices.

Point Blank will also be running a series of FREE one week accredited media courses during school holidays. The training will be chosen will be chosen by the young people involved in the project and through  the site from Point Blank’s range of courses, including Web Marketing, Radio Broadcasting, Music Production, DJ’ing, Film Production and Street Dance.

To kick off the programme, applicants need to be residents of Hackney aged 13-19 years old (up to 25 for those with learning disabilities).
