Pan-London - London's Learning
Point Blank has secured £237,000 of Government funding to deliver London’s Learning, a creative media training programme, as part of a ‘learning for pleasure' innovation spearheaded by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). London received £2.6 million of the £20 million Transformation Fund, dedicated to innovative informal adult learning projects. One of over 213 winning projects, London’s Learning will engage more than 2,000 adults through celebrity-led creative music and media tasters, master-classes and workshops.
It will target Londoners who are not in employment, education or training, and who have had negative learning experiences in mainstream education. The project aims to provide more enjoyable learning experiences through a unique combination of informal learning environments (including top London venues and retail centres), non-traditional subjects (such as Music Production, Radio and Film-making), and celebrity master-classes (such as acting workshops with Point Blank patrons David Harewood and Tracy-Ann Oberman). Point Blank will also be developing an innovative web portal that will act as a social network and directory for Londoners wishing to access other learning opportunities in their area.
To kick things off in October there will be a Radio Broadcast workshop lead by Lucy Ambache, presenter of Choice FM's daily breakfast show (pictured above). Please head to www.londonslearning.org for further details of this workshop plus news of all the upcoming London's Learning projects.
Rob Cowan, founder of Point Blank, summarised the aims of the project:
"This project will demonstrate that everyone can enjoy learning new things, even those who have been put off education in the past. Subjects like Music Production and Film-making draw on creative abilities that may never have had an outlet before, and we expect to find plenty of untapped talent amongst the Londoners who get involved”
The project will be delivered with support from Global Radio, the largest commercial radio company in the UK, incorporating stations such as Capital FM and Heart; and The Creative Way, a consortium of over 40 colleges and universities in London.
