Radio Station Management

In the past Point Blank has built and run several radio stations for other organisations and it has also developed courses for young people based around radio production. In continuation, this course was written in response to the need for enabling the young people involved with the project to actively contribute to the running of the station after Point Blank's departure.
Course Outline
How does a radio station work? How does professional radio sound so, well - professional? If you want to start your own radio station or want to know how one works, this course aims to run through the production, programming and technical tools, plus the industry knowledge to allow students to do just that. There will be a very specific focus on online and community music led radio and industry insiders will be invited to talk to students on their specialist subjects.
Course Breakdown
- Production: programme structure.
- Sound & Music: creating a station sound.
- Technical: equipment in-station and outside broadcasts.
- Policy & procedures: codes of conduct and licenses.
- News department: broadcast journalism.
- Marketing: forging community links, networking, OFCOM & other industry organizations.
- Final show: a day of integrated programming presented and run by students.
