Case Study: MC Skills - Popla HARCA

Point Blank delivered a number of workshops for Poplar HARCA (Housing and Regeneration Community Association) in East London as part of their holiday scheme. These workshops ran at the Teviot and Linc Centres and introduced around nearly 50 young people to MC Skills and Streetdance.

Point Blank’s tutors wasted no time in passing on their skills to their groups of enthusiastic learners; young MCs were taught the basics of lyric-writing, rhyming and rhythm, and dancers were shown simple hip hop moves, which were put together to form a final choreographed piece.

“Everyone LOVED MCing!…The staff were thrilled to see kids writing their own lyrics (something the staff felt they would have found really hard to achieve if they'd delivered, say, a creative writing workshop or something similar). They also said that the activity was universally popular, even very "shy" children had a go.” - Tessa Dugmore
