Case Study: London Borough of Hackney - Inspire Magazine

During the summer of 2009, Point Blank worked with young people from Inspire (the Education Business Partnership for Hackney) to design and create a magazine. The project was funded by the Learning Trust.
The course gave participants a practical introduction to the magazine development process. It taught the group skills, both creative and technical, which enabled them to create their own content and turn their ideas into a real physical product.
Participants covered everything from writing and picture editing, to layout and art design. They then spent the final sessions of the course consolidating what they had learnt to design and create their own magazine 'Grime and Candii'. It was filled with content generated by the young people and relevant to their own interests and concerns. One thousand copies of the magazine were then produced for distribution across Hackney.
