Case Study: Music Video Production - Sonic Spin

‘Sonic Spin' is an opportunity for young people in Barking and Dagenham aged between 13 and 19 to gain free training in the latest music technology and creative music-making as well as a wide range of other skills. A pilot for the scheme was initially run in Barking & Dagenham in 2004/05 through funding from ACE and proved a model of success in both bringing diverse partnerships together and engaging a wide range of young people. The pilot in Barking and Dagenham achieved a number of notable successes, including reaching nearly 150 young people across the borough through a combination of tasters and accredited modules. 70% of students who attended the modules achieved OCN passes and outstanding work ranging from a music video to a graffiti art wall was produced.

Ray-Gun's 'Bounce' was created as part of the Sonic Spin project on the MCing and Music Video production courses, featuring work produced on the Graffiti course.

"Sonic Spin enables young people to produce original work and through this process they gain confidence and pride not only in their musical and technical abilities but also in themselves as individuals."
