Case Study: London Borough of Redbridge - MC/DJ Skillz
Point Blank has been working in partnership with Redbridge Arts Service for a number of years delivering a variety of Creative and Media projects in the borough, through funding from the Arts Council. At the beginning of 2008 we combined both MC Skills and DJ Skills courses for youngsters who attended the Bridge Community Centre each week. They were taught by our famous MC tutor Robin Coombes AKA Farma G! from the legendary MC partnership Task Force. For MC Skills, the students learnt about lyric writing, performance skills, and mic technique. During the DJ Skills part of the course they picked up beat matching and basic mixing. At the end of the course they put on an event to show off their talents which was attended by local dignitaries and reported on by local press.
The latest Redbridge project, running since October 2008, was The Klick. To launch this project, Point Blank held a Taster Day where young people were introduced to the longer courses which were to follow throughout the year. The MC Skills taster proved very successful with participants who got the chance to show off their skills to our expert tutors and learn some tips and tricks. You can see photos from the session below.
